High quality large foldable chôchin 提灯 (Japanese paper lantern) with black lacquer 蝋色漆 (roiro’urushi) casings. The very thin paper is inscribed with three kanji (Chinese characters), reading ‘Eishôan’ 栄昌庵. Which could have been the name of a temple.

Please be very careful when you hang up this lantern. The inside is supported by metal chains, but still the paper is very fragile while unfolding.
